Yesterday afternoon I had the pleasure of performing close-up magic at a Lord’s Taverners charity event in Cardiff, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and filled with a real sense of purpose as guests gathered to support an incredible cause.
The Lord’s Taverners are renowned for the vital work they do supporting young people through sport and recreation, and it was an honour to be invited to contribute to an event dedicated to raising both funds and awareness. The Cardiff venue was perfectly suited to the occasion, with tables full of guests enjoying good company, great conversation, and a shared commitment to the charity’s mission.
I spent the afternoon performing close-up magic around the tables, bringing moments of surprise and wonder directly to the guests. Table-to-table magic is one of my favourite ways to perform, as it allows for genuine interaction and creates a personal experience for everyone involved. With no stage and no barriers, the magic happens right in front of people’s eyes — often in their own hands — making every reaction completely authentic.
As I moved from table to table, cards, coins, and everyday objects became the focus of moments that sparked laughter, amazement, and more than a few looks of disbelief. One of the most rewarding parts of close-up magic is how quickly it brings people together. Guests who may not have known each other well were suddenly sharing reactions, leaning in, and enjoying a collective sense of wonder.
The daytime setting gave the event a relaxed yet energetic feel, which worked perfectly for close-up magic. Guests were able to fully engage, ask questions, and enjoy the experience without feeling rushed. The reactions throughout the afternoon were incredibly encouraging, with many people expressing how much they enjoyed having magic brought directly to their table rather than watching from a distance.
What made the experience even more meaningful was knowing that the entertainment was helping support such an important charity. Being able to use magic to enhance an event that makes a real difference in young people’s lives is something I’m genuinely proud of. It’s a great reminder that live entertainment can do more than entertain — it can help bring attention and positivity to worthwhile causes.
As the event came to a close, I left Cardiff feeling grateful for the opportunity to be involved. A huge thank you to the organisers, the Lord’s Taverners, and all the guests who took part so enthusiastically. It was a privilege to perform at such a well-run and meaningful charity event, and I look forward to supporting similar events in the future.
